The Popeboy Collective
The Popeboy Collective are an electro-space industrial band based in Houston, TX.
The band formed in 2020 from a group of former Houston punk rockers who reunited online and launched this collective endeavor. Jim Craine, Dan Workman, Bill Loner (ex-Culturcide), Bob Weber (ex-Really Red) and Mary Munson McGee (ex-Wild Bores) create a unique brand of entertainment, fusing synthetic stories and free jazz house sounds with noisy grooves, sweeping synths and guitars that will make you want to visit the dark corners of your memory.
Hailed as the successors to Culturcide and Really Red by those who were there, PBC is releasing epic music designed to move your heart and your brain…and they’re coming for your musical souls.
"The songs often have a dark, brooding atmosphere and the overall sound is often quite unsettling, but there are also steady rhythms and melodic hooks that will draw you into the music." - Andy P, Fear and Loathing.
A collection of singles called KILL ME O’CLOCK that will gradually build into an album. It features the brand new track INK, with Tim Muddiman on guitar, who spent years performing and recording with Gary Numan and Pop Will Eat Itself.
In anticipation of a third album, The Popeboy Collective has released a teaser called WHITE BOY SUMMER, just in time for violent weather, enraged drivers, littered beer cans and an action-packed political season. It’ll get you in the mood!
hive mind
Released late March 2023, this album took 3 years to make, involving musical artists from several states in the US. Live improvisations recorded in real time were tossed around, mixed and remixed digitally to create the layered sounds of the collective. Digital images created by Mary M. McGee form the cover art and capture the foreboding in her lyrics. The poetry and detailed credits were adapted to the disc packaging and booklet by Heather L. Johnson.
Cautionary Tales
Vagabond Houstonians travelled far and wide but reconnected through time channels at random intervals. The 9 pieces are produced by two masters: Dan Workman and Jim Craine. The verbal blasphemy is natural for Mary McGee. Other wandering musicians contribute their styles. Meanwhile the visual artists and configurators faithfully overlay.
